Assignment 9A- Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Assignment 9A- Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2
  • Who- Through my interview process I did find people that did not fall into the type of opportunity that I am trying to find a solutions to. Although I found many that completely agree with this and think this problem should be dealt with.
  • Some business may only use strictly air hand dryers in order to save the environment or possibly lower costs.
  • What- Like discussed in the who, some business may not need nor want this specific product based on their needs. There may be some need for paper towels for other problems such as if there was a spill etc.
  • Why- Yes the underlying need could be different but in a sense it is not a necessity. This product would be an addition to customers to appease their customers needs not necessarily the business’ needs.

Inside the boundary
Outside the boundary
Who is In- People who are extra cleanly (like all water to be gone from hands)
People who it bothers
People in a rush
Who is Not- People who are germaphobes
People who just don't care
People who it doesn’t bother
People who have time
What the Need Is
To help efficiency
What the Need Is Not
To slow down things
Why the Need Exists
People need to clean their hands in order to be cleanly
People need to do things in an efficient and orderly fashion
Alternative Explanations

  1. Hey,

It is interesting to see those who were outside your boundary. I just so strongly believe in this unmet need that it is weird to think that others do not share that same need. For instance, as a college student i am always on the go, so I never have time to wait. On the contrary, you might have child who might find the automatic paper towel machines as something fun to play with and might not see the problem. It is interesting to see that one's lifestyle can influence whether or not a certain need is met or not.

  2. Hello! It is true that it sometimes takes a number of paper towels to completely dry your hands. Some businesses like you said have switched to hand blowers to save costs on paper. People who want all the water to be gone, which seems to be most people. I can only see where people may not want their hands completely dry if they would rather save paper and the environment.

  3. Hi Delaney,
This is a great outline of your details about your opportunity solution. You analyzed the different businesses and considered who would be needing the opportunity most very well. Although, some businesses may not need your product as much, there are definitely businesses that will receive a great benefit from the product. This analysis will help refine the final parts of your opportunity and you’ll be able to create this product successfully.

  4. Hi Delaney,
You did a great job of identifying who would be in or out of the boundaries for your need. I think that if done right, paper towel dispensers could be as cost-effective as air dryers, although they are not as good for the environment. This opportunity is one that could help everybody, even if they don't see it as an annoyance currently.
